The Story

The ferry groans, the gulls gossip, and Harley's nose is glued to the rail: salt, wind, and snacks. Dad points out the islands and laughs when Harley calls the waves "wiggly fields." On shore, they meet new friends, chase tide foam, and find a lakeside legend shimmering in the Okanagan.

At the Ogopogo statue, Harley stares, then grins: "If that is a lake monster, I am a brave snack inspector." Dad ruffles his ears. Oliver the RV hums contentedly — the road is calling, and BC answers in emerald and blue.

Plushie of the Chapter

Oggie the Ogopogo plushie
Oggie the Ogopogo

Oggie was born from the ripples of Okanagan Lake — a shy little lake noodle who loves to pop up when the sun sparkles just right on the water. Most folks think he is a myth… until they see the bubbles, the tail flick, and that big, goofy grin.

When Harley first met him, he expected a fearsome monster — but instead, Oggie giggled so much his bubbles made Dad's hat float away. Now Oggie is Harley's wave-surfing buddy, keeping an eye out for fish, snacks, and floating sticks to fetch.

Calm, clever, and full of humor, Oggie hums softly when he is happy — a sound Harley swears is the "song of the lake." He loves shiny pebbles (which he calls lake snacks), and he always lets kids win when they race him across the water.

Harley's note: "I was not scared for even a second. (Okay, maybe one second.) But then Oggie smiled, and I smiled back. That is how you make a friend." 💙
